Patricia Turken

Patricia Messersmith Turken, born 1960, DeLand, Florida

I began my career in 1982 as an art educator in primary public school in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Martha’s Vineyard, where I also exhibited my watercolors. I was drawn to watercolor because it aligns with my spiritual need to live in close proximity to a body of water. I moved to Dobbs Ferry in 1991 and began painting Nyack and the surrounding views from my window. Every day looks different which provides endless inspiration for me.

Although I have spent my professional career as a graphic designer in New York City, I have always continued to paint. In 2020, I began exhibiting my work again on Martha’s Vineyard where I spent my summers growing up. I am an active member of the Martha's Vineyard Art Association and Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown.
