Julianne Farella is an artist and art educator in Larchmont, New York. Her artwork is rooted in exploring emerging symbolism from observational studies of nature and imagined visual imagery. Through her drawings and paintings, she assembles textures and symbols to evoke feelings of comfort, confinement, and distance. She is an avid sketchbook keeper of observational drawings, typically accumulated from walks. She uses her drawing practice as a way to reflect more deeply on daily observations.
StatementWe accumulate different points of view through time. Our windows expand and the conglomeration of experiences and feelings merge and form new landscapes. The connections we create between internal thoughts and external experiences fluctuate between comfort and confinement. We may always find our way back to this common thread of tension between conflicting feelings. We are home.
